The short version
Five things worth your time
Question 01Submitted by the audience
How has the current war and the wider uncertainty in the Middle East affected SnSD?
Some Middle East clients have slowed activity, postponed projects or temporarily cut production, with recovery expected towards the end of 2026. HSE and process safety budgets are holding, and demand outside the region is solid or growing.
First and foremost, we are deeply saddened by what is happening. Beyond its business impact, this is a human tragedy, and many people, families and communities across the region have been affected.
From a business perspective, some of our clients in the Middle East have slowed down activities, postponed projects or temporarily reduced production. We have remained in close contact with them, and we expect activity to begin recovering towards the end of 2026.
Interestingly, this is also the period when many organisations are developing their budgets for the coming year. Despite the immediate uncertainty, we are seeing companies continuing to allocate meaningful investment to HSE, process safety and operational risk.
Outside the Middle East, demand remains solid and is, in some areas, increasing. Changes in energy markets and oil prices can generate additional investment capacity in other regions. So while one part of our market has temporarily slowed, opportunities elsewhere are continuing to grow.
Question 02Submitted by the audience
Where are you seeing the strongest demand, and what are clients asking SnSD to help them with?
Demand is strongest in safety culture and leadership, process safety and operational risk, contractor safety, frontline competency, and HSE transformation. The bigger shift is in delivery expectations: faster, broader, more consistent, and evidenced at the frontline.
Demand continues across a familiar set of areas:
- —Safety culture and leadership
- —Process safety and operational risk
- —Contractor safety
- —Frontline competency and learning
- —HSE transformation and digitalisation
However, the most important change is not simply which service clients are requesting. It is how they expect those services to be delivered.
Clients still want experienced consultants with deep subject matter expertise and many years in high-hazard operations. But they also expect faster delivery, broader reach, greater consistency, and clearer evidence that an intervention is changing what happens at the frontline. That expectation is shaping the future of SnSD.
Follow-up
Is that changing SnSD’s delivery model?
Yes. It is bringing our consulting and digital capabilities much closer together.
Question 03Submitted by the audience
SnSD has two streams — traditional consulting and digital services through SafetyBud. How are they coming together?
Into a hybrid model. Consultants diagnose the operational problem and design the intervention with leadership and the frontline; SafetyBud translates it into learning, communications, coaching prompts and follow-up, and returns data on participation, understanding and progress.
Historically these could have been seen as two separate businesses: traditional consulting delivered by experienced HSE, process safety and operational risk professionals, and digital services delivered through SafetyBud.
What we are now seeing is a very interesting paradigm emerging. We are realising that AI and SafetyBud can help us scale the impact of our traditional consulting services. The platform does not replace experienced consultants. It allows their knowledge, methods and coaching to reach many more people, much more consistently.
That creates a hybrid model:
- —Consultants diagnose the real operational problem.
- —They work with leadership and the frontline to design the intervention.
- —SafetyBud translates the intervention into practical learning, communications, coaching prompts and follow-up activities.
- —Data from the platform provides visibility over participation, understanding and progress.
- —Consultants then focus their time where human judgement and field experience create the greatest value.
This improves effectiveness because the intervention continues between site visits. It also improves efficiency, expands reach, and makes high-quality support more affordable for clients.
It allows us to move knowledge from a small group of experts into the daily work of a much larger organisation.

Question 04Submitted by the audience
Can you give a practical example of how the hybrid model works?
Visible Safety Leadership. SnSD starts with leadership alignment and coaching — what to look for, what to ask, how to respond to a concern — then uses SafetyBud to prepare leaders before a visit and convert what they find into learning, shared practice and tracked follow-through afterwards.
Visible Safety Leadership is a good example. Many organisations already conduct leadership site visits, safety tours and management engagements. The problem is that visibility alone does not necessarily create impact. A leader can visit a site, wear the correct PPE, speak to a few employees and leave without learning anything meaningful or changing how work is performed.
Effective Visible Safety Leadership is not about being seen. It is about the signals leaders send, the quality of the conversations they have, and what happens after the visit.
Gökhan Yıldız
Our approach starts with leadership alignment and coaching. We help leaders understand:
- —What they should look for
- —What questions they should ask
- —How to respond when someone raises a concern
- —How to distinguish real operational signals from superficial compliance
- —How to reinforce psychological safety while maintaining accountability
- —How to ensure findings lead to action and learning
The SnSD approach connects leadership visibility with real work, Human and Organisational Performance principles, psychological safety, leadership signals and structured follow-through.
Follow-up
What is the difference between a traditional safety walk and an effective Visible Safety Leadership interaction?
A traditional safety walk can easily become ceremonial. Leaders arrive with a prepared itinerary. The organisation shows them what it wants them to see. Employees give safe or rehearsed answers. Observations focus on visible conditions. Actions are recorded, but the organisation learns very little.
An effective interaction is different. The leader explores how work is really being done, with open questions such as:
- “What makes this job difficult today?
- “Where does the procedure not match reality?
- “What is most likely to go wrong?
- “Which control are you least confident about?
- “When people are under pressure, what gets compromised first?
- “Is there anything you would normally hesitate to tell a senior leader?
The objective is not to catch people doing something wrong. It is to understand the conditions shaping their decisions.
Follow-up
Where does SafetyBud add value to something that is fundamentally a human leadership activity?
The human conversation remains central. SafetyBud supports everything around that conversation.
Before a visit, the platform can give leaders short preparation content, relevant risk themes, suggested questions, recent incident or operational learning, and site-specific areas requiring attention.
After the visit, it helps capture meaningful observations, turn findings into short learning content, share good practice across locations, track actions and recurring themes, reinforce the expected leadership behaviours, and provide targeted follow-up for leaders and frontline teams.
Most importantly, it creates continuity. Visible Safety Leadership should not depend on one good visit or one charismatic leader. Structured consulting plus digital reinforcement makes the practice repeatable and scalable.
Follow-up
How do you stop digitalisation turning the programme into another checklist or reporting exercise?
That is a critical question. We begin with the risk and the behaviour we want to influence — not with the technology. Technology should never be introduced simply because it is available. It must make the conversation better, simplify the work, or help the organisation learn.
So we measure quality rather than only activity. The most important questions are not how many visits were completed or how many observations were entered. They are:
- —Did leaders identify meaningful operational signals?
- —Did employees feel able to speak honestly?
- —Were weak controls identified before an incident?
- —Did the conversation lead to a better decision?
- —Were insights converted into learning and sustained improvement?
The platform supports the process, but leadership credibility, curiosity and follow-through remain human responsibilities.
The consultant helps create the quality. The platform helps create the reach, consistency and sustainability.

Question 05Submitted by the audience
Looking ahead, how do you see 2027 developing for the HSE sector and for SnSD?
Organisations will be pushed to improve safety performance while operating more efficiently, and to show clearer business and risk-reduction value from HSE spend. SnSD will grow both consulting and SafetyBud, use the platform to scale expert knowledge, and expand from oil, gas and petrochemicals into manufacturing, construction and infrastructure.
I see 2027 as an important year for both the HSE profession and SnSD.
For the wider sector, organisations will continue to face pressure to improve safety performance while operating more efficiently. They will expect HSE investments to demonstrate clearer business and risk-reduction value. We will also see a stronger convergence between experienced technical consulting, AI, frontline learning and operational data.
For SnSD, the direction is clear. First, we will continue growing both sides of our business: traditional consulting services and SafetyBud. Second, we will increasingly use SafetyBud to strengthen and scale our consulting. The objective is not to digitalise consulting for its own sake — it is to make expert knowledge more accessible, interventions more sustainable, and outcomes more measurable.
Third, we will expand into additional sectors. We have strong roots in oil, gas, refining, petrochemicals and chemicals, and we see significant opportunity to apply our experience and delivery model in:
- —Manufacturing
- —Construction
- —Infrastructure
- —Additional areas of the chemical industry
- —Other high-risk and operationally complex sectors
Our ambition is to remain a specialist, high-quality firm while significantly extending the reach of our expertise — combining experienced people, fresh thinking and technology to solve difficult HSE problems differently.
Closing
Not waiting for conditions to improve
The takeaway from this session is that despite considerable uncertainty, SnSD is adapting its model rather than pausing — combining deep consulting experience with SafetyBud to deliver HSE improvement at greater scale.
In Gökhan’s closing words: “Despite the uncertainty, we remain optimistic. The need to protect people, strengthen operations and improve organisational resilience is not going away. Our role is to continue finding more effective, practical and affordable ways to help organisations achieve that.”
