Picture this: a young kid, wide-eyed and eager, learning the ropes of life from two incredible teachers – my parents. Their wisdom and moral compass didn’t just guide me; they became the foundation of who I am today. Fast forward, and I find myself blessed with an amazing partner and kids who light up my life. I’m so grateful to my entire family.
Professionally, I’ve been on a roller coaster that only seemed to go up. Imagine a curious student from Eindhoven University stepping into the vast, complex world of Shell. That was me! This journey whisked me away to six different countries, each offering its unique set of challenges and learnings, shaping my approach to work and life.
My adventure took an even more exciting turn at Harvard Business School. Here, in the midst of brilliant minds and groundbreaking ideas, I discovered the transformative power of technology and AI – a realm that promises to redefine our future. This fascination led me to intenseye, where the focus was on revolutionising workplace safety through AI. Talk about shaping the future of Safety, an eye-opening experience!
But you know, have you ever felt a quiet voice inside you, gently asking… ‘What more can I do to make a real difference?’ That voice became a loud call for me…
One breezy summer afternoon…
One breezy summer afternoon, I was engrossed in Elif Shafak’s book, lying on a long chair in a quaint coastal town in southern Turkey by the turquoise Mediterranean Sea. The book, narrating an extraordinary love story between Mevlana and Shems, also revealed the ‘40 rules of Love.‘
It was rule 19 that struck a chord with me:
‘Fret not where the road will take you. Instead concentrate on the first step. That is the hardest part and that is what you are responsible for. Once you take that step let everything do what it naturally does and the rest will follow. Don’t go with the flow. Be the flow.’
This was a moment of revelation!
This was a moment of revelation. I put the book down immediately. My mind started racing with thoughts. Why was I hesitating to take that first step towards my true calling? How could I ‘be the flow’? It all made sense in that beautiful, reflective moment. I realised the path I needed to take was clear: Why not combine my passion for Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) with my extensive network and desire to make a positive societal impact?”
That’s how SnSD Consultants came to life – a dream to do Safety and Sustainability Differently. Joining me in this dream are Marcel and Josh, my comrades-in-arms with over 25 years of HSE and ESG expertise each. Together, we dream of growing SnSD into a haven for professionals who share our burning passion.
